A blank space on a map is an invitation to flights of fancy. I recently read in David Grann’s The Lost City of Z how early Amazonian explorers may have mistook natural rock formations for the ruins of a great city. Seen from a distance, formations like this one in Parque Sete Cidades near Piripiri Brazil could certainly fool a desperate explorer after months in the jungle.
