A map of London showing thousands of years of history in a single view, by Mike Beehan, 2009
UPDATE - someone noticed this picture is identical to a drawing by Katherine Baxter. I suspect this Mike Beehan fellow doctored the image and tried to pass it off as his own on a cartography forum.

A raven in the Tower of London that hyacinthhhouse & I met during the winter of 2010. By tradition seven ravens are kept on the tower grounds at all times.
They are treated as enlisted military personnel and can be dismissed for unbecoming behavior. According to Jeffrey Valance ”In 1986, a raven called George, ‘enlisted in 1975’, was dismissed for ‘conduct unsatisfactory’ and sent to the Welsh Mountain Zoo. He ‘received his marching orders’ after demolishing television aerials.”

Another example of Gothic Revival architecture blended with medieval foundations is Castell Coch near Cardiff, Wales. It was a 13th century castle rebuilt in 1875 by John Crichton-Stuart, 3rd Marquess of Bute.

They wear cork life-jackets, but I can’t help thinking of them as a grim-faced gang of Victorian suicide-bombers.
