One of the worst naval disasters in history happened in the center of Chicago. On July 24, 1915, the SS Eastland left a dock on the Chicago River between Clark and LaSalle streets loaded with 2,572 passengers bound for a company picnic. Fifteen minutes later she capsized, killing 844 people.

The Bounty sank near Cape Hatteras yesterday. One crew member was found dead and another is still missing.
The replica ship used in filming Mutiny On The Bounty in 1962 sank off the coast of North Carolina today.
Thoughts are with the crew of HMS Bounty while the Coast Guard searches for two missing.
